Preventative Medicine Saves Lives

While traditional medicine excels at treating illness, there is an increasing focus on detecting and reducing the risk of getting sick in the first place. Chronic diseases—conditions that persist for a year or more, requiring ongoing care or limiting daily life—are now the leading causes of death in the United States. Heart disease and cancer top the list, with chronic illnesses accounting for most cases of disability, illness, and mortality. Many of these conditions stem from preventable risk factors, including smoking, poor nutrition, physical inactivity, and excessive alcohol consumption. The good news is that many chronic diseases can be detected, and their onset detected or prevented through effective proactive measures.

Introducing Impact Health, a modern medical practice focused on healthcare strategies that look to prevent diseases and maintain overall health, rather than treating illnesses after they occur.

Founded in 2024 by Dr. Lee S. Marcus, Board Certified Cardiologist, Impact Health believes that a proactive, individualized strategy for detecting and preventing illness is the “medicine” needed to curb disease. Our approach prioritizes early detection, risk reduction, and lifestyle modifications, as well as more aggressive patient-tailored therapies to avert the onset of diseases.

At Impact Health, prevention is our purpose.

There are three types of preventive medicine:

  • Primordial: Primordial prevention focuses on preventing the emergence or establishment of risk factors that lead to disease, aiming to create environments and behaviors that support lifelong health. This proactive approach addresses the root causes of health issues before they develop, promoting well-being from the very start.
  • Primary: Primary prevention aims to prevent diseases before they occur by addressing risk factors and promoting overall health. This includes actions such as, healthy lifestyle choices, public health initiatives designed to reduce the likelihood of illness, as well as more aggressive interventions.
  • Secondary: Secondary prevention focuses on early detection of disease already “in progress” and prompt intervention to stop or slow the progression of a disease in its initial stages.

Get in touch with us today and let’s talk about how our preventive protocols can give you more control over your health and well-being. The steps you can take now will set you up for a more active and vibrant future.

Primordial and Primary Prevention at Impact Health

The  ultimate goal of preventive medicine is to reduce the incidence and impact of chronic diseases, such as heart disease, diabetes, and certain types of cancer. These conditions are often the result of lifestyle factors such as poor diet, lack of exercise, smoking, and excessive alcohol consumption.

By addressing these risk factors early on, individuals can significantly decrease their chances of developing serious health conditions, improving both their quality of life and longevity.

A big part of this field is promoting a healthier lifestyle through regular physical activity, a balanced diet, stress management, and avoidance of harmful habits like smoking. By shifting the focus from treatment to prevention, patients are empowered to take control of their health and their future where preventable diseases are minimized.

We believe that primary prevention is an essential component of a healthcare approach that gives you the power, and not the other way around.

Secondary Prevention at Impact Health

If primary prevention is successful, the incidence of a disease decreases, however secondary prevention is different. While it does not necessarily prevent a disease from occurring, it does detect disease early enough to allow for effective treatment.

Secondary prevention is the early detection of a disease or condition in an asymptomatic stage so treatment can delay or block the occurrence of symptoms. Through secondary prevention, individuals who are at the early stages of a condition or who have risk factors that predispose them to developing more serious health issues.

The goal of secondary prevention is to identify diseases in their earliest stages, when treatment is most effective. This is typically achieved through screenings and diagnostic tests. Early detection allows for prompt treatment, which can significantly reduce the severity of the disease or prevent its progression altogether.

We look forward to connecting with you about our sevices and how we can support your health and well-being.
